The parish of St Therese of Lisieux, the
oldest of the three parishes, serves the
people living in the areas of Laindon,
Langdon Hills and Dunton Hills.
Originally served from Billericay, Mass
was first celebrated in an artist’s
studio in 1915. A few years later an
outhouse adjoining the home of one of
the parishioners was turned into a small
chapel. In 1925 a chapel that had been
used for daily Mass at the Wembley
Exhibition (1924-25) was transferred to
Laindon and dedicated to St Therese of
Lisieux. A new church hall was built in
1971 and also began to be used for Mass.
The present church (with a presbytery
and hall) situated in Florence Way was
opened in 1991. |
